15 Minutes of Fame

Why a million followers doesn't translate to cash in the bank

Hello storytellers! When we set out to build this community, our goal was to curate resources that would help talented creators grow and build monumental brands.

Less than a year in, we have a number of community members who are well on their way there. This got us thinking: it’s time to share the wisdom with one another.

What was the advice you wish you got when you first started your creator journey?

Things you should know about

LinkedIn is stepping up its creator game: LinkedIn has decided it wants to play with the cool kids. Less than a year after it launched a creator platform, it’s doubling down on creators by launching a creator accelerator. The TL;DR: you get can up to $12K for posting consistently. Application deadline: August 10. Yay for free cash!

The ultimate creator hangout: There are people you probably know from Twitter, but how cool would it be to meet them IRL?! Well, Sahil Bloom and Sam Parr are teaming up to make this happen. Mark your calendars for August 11, they’re hosting a meetup in NYC. Time to get two whiskeys deep with these two.

Your 15 min of fame won’t make you rich: When Andy Warhol said that everybody would be famous for 15 minutes, he might as well have been talking about TikTok. More than 39,000 creators on TikTok have over 1M followers, making it the platform of choice for anyone who wants to be famous. However, most TikTokers still struggle to earn an income, with the average creator earning almost a third less on TikTok than on Instagram. We’ll probably see TikTokers expanding to other platforms in order to build a more loyal, engaged audience that helps bring home the bacon.

News from the Community

Nicole Casperson hit 38K subscribers for her newsletter. About a month ago she was at 10K. That’s some growth!

Danny Miranda scored an interview with Lux Capital co-founder Josh Wolfe. This one will be a doozy, we’re psyched to listen.

KP was featured in DayOne’s newsletter shortly after joining their team. That’s the right way to welcome a rockstar to your team!

Imagine what clarity tastes like.

If you’re having a hard time, don’t fret. This Japanese artist is making “crystal clear confections”….which are basically Jell-O inside of which you can see. Her creations are not only delicious but an absolute pleasure to look at. It almost feels too beautiful to eat!

With love,
